I think that this photo showing negative space is my best photo from the dozen photo challenge because it displays how negative space can be used to create a center focal point.

The most challenging aspect of this assignment for me was the color aspect. I had a hard time finding pictures with analogous colors and monochromatic colors.

In the future I will try to incorporate using different color techniques to create stronger images.

Hi Raquelle! This photo is so amazing! My focus went straight to the boats and the lighting for the image is amazing. I wonder if zooming in less would tell a different story and create a different composition. Also if a different angle would help show the backlight technique you mentioned. The colors of the image are so beautiful and this image was wonderfully captured!"

Hi Erin! This photo is amazing! I love how you’ve used negative space so effectively—it really draws the viewer's eye straight to the bird. The clarity is impressive, especially with how sharp the bird's reflection appears in the water. The contrast between the deep blue of the water and the white/gray of the bird is beautiful. It might be interesting to experiment with filters to create an even bolder contrast between the bird and the background—just to see how it enhances the overall impact. Fantastic work overall!

Hey Erin! This photo is amazing and it has a simplistic beauty that is eye-catching. The way you captured the photo almost makes it look like a painting, which is why I was so drawn to it at first. I think you utilized the "negative space" technique very well! It draws focus to the bird, and the water surrounding it allows it to stand out more. You did a great job and I look forward to seeing more of your photography!

Hi! This image is amazing! I am particularly drawn to this image because at first, my brain did not comprehend that it is real. The negative space element of the birds surroundings definitely highlights the uniqueness of the bird. The focus and contrast of the photograph is spot on! If I would change anything, it would be to focus a bit more of the bird. Then the viewer could identify the subject of the photo a bit faster.

Hey Erin! This is a really cool photo! It makes me feel almost strange because the bird feels like it's in a void almost. I thinl it's a really cool use of negative space. I wonder how changing up the exposure or color saturation could make the bird even more distinct from the background.

Hey Erin, I think this is a great photo! My attention was drawn right to the bird, and think that this is a good use of negative space. I also love how clear of a photo you managed to take--the water reflecting the bird looks almost surreal. I think the contrast between the bird and the background is good, but I wonder if there's anything else you can do to make it stand out a bit more. Maybe play with settings/filters to create a more dramatic contrast and see how it affects the image. Overall, great job! :)

Hello! This photo is awesome! I love how the negative space really draws you to look at the bird, right in the middle of the photograph. I love how simple the photograph is, the water is perfect. I am wondering how much you had to zoom in to capture this image! How far away from the bird were you? One change that I would try was to see if the water was more detailed how that would change our focus and view of the bird. Love your work!

Hi Erin! I really like your use of negative space in this image. I think the contrast of the solid blue background with the white of the bird really makes it stand out, and the clear reflection of the bird in the water being perfectly centered in the image adds some nice balance to it. I think the choice you made with how zoomed out the image is also works really well—it feels like I'm outside looking at the same thing you were. One change I'd be curious to see is if the image would look different with the black spots spot-corrected; this could help make the negative space more extreme and add more focus to the bird. On the other hand, though, removing those spots might make the negative space look less natural, so your choice to leave them in helps add some realism that I think is important. Either way, great work!
